To activate WhatsApp API, Meta Business Verification is required. You need to provide any one of the following documents: GST Registration Certificate, Certificate of Incorporation / MCA Registration, Business Bank Statement, Utility Bill (within the last 3 months), Shop & Establishment Certificate, Udyam / MSME Registration and PAN Card with address proof. The business name and address on the document must match the details entered in Meta Business Manager.

Besides documents, you need: a verified Meta Business Manager account, a Facebook personal account with Full Access to the Business Portfolio, Two-Factor Authentication enabled on Facebook, a dedicated phone number not registered on any WhatsApp app, an HTTPS-secured business website with Privacy Policy and Terms, a business email matching the website domain, a payment method for conversation charges, and a business display name that matches your brand.

Yes, you can migrate your existing number to WhatsApp API, but the number must first be deleted from the WhatsApp Business App or Personal App. The number should be able to receive SMS or voice calls for verification. After migration, you can only use the number through the API — not through the WhatsApp Business App anymore.

Yes, having a website is highly recommended. During Meta verification, the website is checked — it must be HTTPS secured, have Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions, the domain must match the business email domain, and the business name and address must be clearly visible. Without a website, verification may be rejected.

The WhatsApp Business App is for small businesses with manual replies, one phone, and around 500 messages per day. The WhatsApp Business API is for larger businesses and teams with automated messaging, multi-agent access, CRM integration, template messaging, and scale (1,000 to Unlimited messages based on tier). If you need more than a few hundred messages per day or any automation, the API is required.

This is a one-time fee for setting up and verifying the Meta Developer Account and Meta Business Manager. It covers creating the Meta Business Manager account, setting up the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA), phone number registration and verification, and following up on the Meta approval process. This fee is mandatory for every user, whether on the Free plan or a Paid plan.

It usually takes 2 to 7 business days. If the documents are correct and match, it gets approved faster. If documents are mismatched or incorrect, it can be rejected and you will need to reapply.

After submitting documents: Meta Business Verification takes 2–7 business days, WhatsApp Business Account approval takes 24–72 hours, and phone number verification is immediate once SMS/Call is received. Overall, setup completes in 3–10 business days if everything is correct.

The Green Tick requires a separate application and is not given automatically to everyone. It requires a verified business and public brand recognition (news articles, Wikipedia, etc.). Meta manually reviews each application. WhatsApp API works perfectly fine without the Green Tick — only the tick next to the display name is missing.

For WhatsApp API and Meta Conversation Charges, you need to use a Visa or Mastercard Debit or Credit Card. The card is added in the Payment Settings of your Meta Business Manager, and Meta auto-charges it every month for the billing cycle.

Having a Visa or Mastercard alone is not enough. Two settings are compulsory on the card: (1) E-Commerce / Online Transactions must be ENABLED, and (2) International Transactions must be ENABLED (because Meta's payment gateway is outside India). If either is disabled, the card will be declined by Meta with an error like "Your card was declined" or "Card does not support this transaction".

The method depends on your bank, but generally: open your Net Banking or Mobile Banking app, go to the Cards section, select your Debit/Credit Card, tap "Manage Card" or "Set Limits", and enable both E-Commerce and International Transactions. Some banks also allow this via IVR or SMS. After enabling, wait 5-10 minutes and then try adding the card in Meta again.

No. Meta accepts only Visa or Mastercard (Debit or Credit) for WhatsApp API payments. UPI, Net Banking, Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay and other wallets are NOT supported. A Visa or Mastercard is mandatory.

Generally no. Meta's payment gateway reliably works with Visa and Mastercard only. RuPay, Maestro and American Express are often declined. It is strongly recommended to use a Visa or Mastercard.

If the card fails during billing, Meta may temporarily pause your account, message sending may stop, and if payment is not received for several days, the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) may get disabled. To re-enable it, you may need to contact Meta support. Always keep the card valid, active, and with sufficient limit.

Yes. In Meta Business Manager, you can add both a Primary Card and a Backup Card. If the primary card fails, Meta automatically tries the backup card, reducing the risk of billing failure and account suspension.

Meta generates an invoice on the 1st or 2nd of every month for the previous month's conversation charges and auto-debits the registered card. The invoice is always available in the Meta Business Manager under the Billing section.

WhatsApp charges per conversation, not per message. When you send the first message to a customer, a 24-hour window opens — all messages sent within this window are free. After 24 hours, a new charge applies. Conversation types include Marketing, Utility, Authentication, and Service (free within the 24-hour window).

Yes, opt-in is mandatory. As per WhatsApp policy, you cannot send business-initiated messages without customer permission. Sending messages without opt-in will lower your Quality Rating, reduce your messaging limit, and may even get your number blocked or banned. Opt-in can be collected via website forms, WhatsApp chat subscriptions, or checkboxes during order placement.

Yes, a verified Meta Business Manager account is absolutely mandatory. WhatsApp Business API is not accessible directly from Meta without it. A WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) is created inside the same Business Manager.
